Maasdam Barns and the Evergreen Ridge Stock Farm – Fairfield, Iowa

The historic Maasdam Barns at the Evergreen Ridge Stock Farm are a significant illustration of an early 20th-century draft-horse breeding business. From 1910 until 1938 the owner of this farm, J. G. Maasdam, raised and sold award-winning draft horses. Restoration on the farm was completed in 2011, including the Mare barn, Stallion barn and Welcome Center. The Welcome Center has displays, photos, artifacts, and stories about the farm's history, along with stories and artifacts concerning early Fairfield industries related to agriculture

Hub City Heritage Railway Museum – Oelwein, Iowa

The Hub City Heritage Museum opened in 1987 and features the railway express building, yard office, yard tower and a collection of locomotives, rolling stock, pump handcar and gift shop. There is also an extensive collecttion of employee records, pictures and other memorabilia. The railway express building was originally the home of Wells Fargo. The yard office and yard tower were the heart of the Chicago Great Western in its heyday. The tower, which was built in 1953, is open to the public. It provides an outstanding view of the former CGW switching yards (which are now D&W), Transco and downtown Oelwein. The museum includes refurbished cabooses and engines. The objectives of the Hub City Heritage Corporation are to encourage and promote the preservation and restoration of railroad memorabilia as it is pretinent to the Oelwein area. It is also to establish, furnish and maintain a railway museum for the education and enjoyment of the public.

The Gallup House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the birthplace and boyhood home of distinguished Iowa resident and renowned pollster George H. Gallup. Heritage Hall, the home of the Slater Area Historical Association, exhibits items from Slater's past in business and farming, including an early 20th century dentist's office and a large miniature of the town's west side in the 40s and 50s. Our emphasis is on showing how people lived and worked in the not-so-distant past, when there were no computers, CDs, and pizza delivery. Those who have family in the area will want to check out our genealogy sources. At least twice a year we also have special exhibits, such as our recent Harvest Heritage exhibit, complete with antique tractors. Our Hall of Heroes contains the photos of over 200 men and women from Slater who served in the military from the Civil War onward.

Oelwein Area Historical Museum – Oelwein, IA

The Oelwein Area Historical Museum includes paintings done by local artists, a "1930's classroom, several "Period" rooms, an extensive telephone exhibit donated by the Telephone Pioneers of America, a General Store, Large and small pieces of farm equipment, a "Soap Box Derby" race car, and a "one of a kind" to scale boxcar built by employees of the Chicago Great Western Railroad , as well as a number of areas highlighting different facets of life in our country throughout the decades. The Museum is located at 900-2nd. Ave. SE in Oelwein. It sets adjacent to new Hwy 150 S between the Dairy Queen and the National Guard Armory. There is no direct access from Hwy 150; but one may reach the Museum by either 7th. St. SE near the Dairy Queen or 10th. St. SE near the Armory. It is open on Sundays, 1:00-4:00 PM from June through September, though tours may be arranged anytime by calling 319-283-4203.
